Before I fall victim to an unfair flame war, let me assure you that I've been a loyal Iron Maiden fan for over 25 years. I have every single album they've ever recorded, I own the videos, the singles, the t-shirts, the posters, the flags, the video game and I've seen them live on numerous occasions. Yes, I know every single song by heart and can sing along to 99% of them. Like any other self respecting Iron Maiden fan. Yes, I've read the official biography more than once and can even quote whole passages from it.

Something really new is Starblind: progressive but different from what has been done on The Final Frontier’s immediate predecessor. It’s very difficult to bang your head to this one, as the vocals and the instruments meet at beginning and ending of a line but tread very different ways in between these to points. During the chorus one of the guitars starts playing a little solo melody (somewhere around 2:00), and some synthesizer can be heard if you listen closely. A very strange song, different from anything done before but when you listen to it you get the feeling that the formula is right. The different lines of the vocals, guitars, drums and bass are all contained within a wider melody. A potentially dangerous experiment but it turned out well. It's my wife's birthday today, so we take the day off and I spend the entire day at the Atlantis resort with my family. A great day, playing on the beaches, sliding down the water slides, floating on rafts on the articial rapids and rivers, and viewing the absolutely amazing aquarium they've built there! In the evening, we leave the babies with my mother-in-law and go out for an intimate adult evening, but we're so shattered by the day's activities that we end up crashing at about 9.30pm! Up at 7am, a great way to start this beautiful day with a visit to the Dentist this morning (I chipped one tooth and a crown fell off another over the weekend). Seems I'm just falling apart! A pretty Bahamian dentist Dr Coverly worked on my teeth in her high heels and a nicely coiffed do. A first for me! It is easy to say that the cover of "The Final Frontier" is one of the most discussed since the "X Factor”. The truth is that we can say the same about the covers of "Virtual XI", "Dance Of Death", and even "A Matter of Life and Death". Because of Derek Riggs’s artworks, the fans have developed a clear image of Eddie that the line between good and bad in other arts is quite noticeable. When I saw, the "thing" that was supposed to be on the cover, I was left with quite mixed feelings, but like every other Maiden stuff, I learned to give it more time. Another interesting fan discussion around the cover was the fact that the skeletons in the spaceship are definitely not human beings, and the style of the spacesuits makes a reference to graphic novels of the 50s and 60s. I was absolutely delighted with the singles and promos that came out with this album. Their artworks were in exactly this retro comic style and were something that fans never saw before with Maiden. For me, they were quite interesting and refreshing. Young illustrator named Anthony Dry, who also did some illustrations for BBC’s “Doctor Who”, did all these artworks.

From there, the album's second side goes into more epic territory with there only being one song that is less than eight minutes long. Of this lot, The Talisman may be the strongest with its sea shanty beginning and more energetic body. Isle Of Avalon and Where The Wild Wind Blows also manage to stand out thanks to the former's building verses and the latter's upbeat melodies and apocalyptic theme.

Top Stranih [Top Foreign]" (in Croatian). Top Foreign Albums. Hrvatska diskografska udruga. Retrieved 29 June 2020. Vocal day - Bruce arrived, with stories, as usual. Tales from flights around the world - Russia, Iceland, Niger..... Today he sang Coming Home and El Dorado, then we had a break for lunch, after which he nailed the lead vocal for Mother of Mercy! It's very, very high...

Like Gers on the previous song, Dave Murray has only one writing credit on the whole CD, which isn't unusual for him of late. But while he may be slowing down as a writer, he usually pulls out all the stops on the limited contributions he does make. "The man who would be king" is typical of his style in recent years, the soothing atmosphere of the intro, outro and interludes something of a trademark to him lately, and perfectly suited to his off-the-cuff style of playing. This is another song in the same vein as "Coming home" where, without going into ballad territory, the band show they aren't afraid of a little reflection and at least partially ditch the heaviness in favour of contemplative serenity. This isn't a concept album but the cover art and the flow of the songs give the feeling that it is. They present this effort as a risky proposition with an opener that drowns the listener with bustles of Harris' fingers and a quasi-spatial suspense atmosphere as if it was a fragment tape of Star Wars, enriched with the instrumental journey On The Run-like, their homologous version, obviously without being the super hit that the Pink Floyd song was. This album may not be essential and is the last thing you want to hear from this band, especially if you’re the one who listens to them frequently, but if you don't wanna hear repeated concepts ad nauseam and look for something novelty, this album is for you. The Final Frontier offers a mix of easy and progressive, old and new Iron Maiden. A welcome album after the dark and difficult A Matter Of Life And Death that can please both old and new fans of the band, it might take a place in my top five of Maiden albums! And people weren’t wound up just because of a Star Trek reference. Steve Harris once said that he only envisaged Iron Maiden making 15 albums and that there was “going to be an ending point” for the band. With The Final Frontier being that 15th studio album, the title seemed like a deliberate wind-up and sparked worried speculation that this could be it. We know now that wasn’t the case, of course. But at the time even Maiden were unsure and, if the title would inevitably fuel speculation, they were in no rush to stop it.a b "Iron Maiden: The Final Frontier review". Kerrang!. 1 August 2010. Archived from the original on 4 October 2010 . Retrieved 1 August 2010. EMI released the album in most of the world, while in the United States it was released jointly by Universal Music Enterprises and Sony Music Entertainment – the successor to the Sanctuary Records/ Columbia Records joint venture that had previously controlled the Iron Maiden catalogue in North America. Thirty years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, The Final Frontier will be Maiden's 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totaling over 80 million album sales during this period.
