Starting
Everyone entering needs to wear tartan. Silliness aside it means we can all recognise who is in the race (there won’t be any numbers issued) there will be prizes for the craziest costumes.
All entrants must be at the start line at Flotterstone 08:00 on 16th Och-tober for Check in including
- kit check per person
- kit check per team
- a final check that your registration, team, route and contact details are correct
- A final check if you are cycling that you have your specified support person with you.
- complete emergency contact information form (with your emergency contact information and the organisers)
- To listen to a safety brief
- To sign the terms and conditions disclaimer viewed online
Team members must remain within 50 metres of each other for the duration of the event
Expect a rolling start for Platinum, Gold, Silver (Bikers) and then walkers, team by team separated by 2-5mins.
For the Silver, Gold and Platinum running and cycle stages you MUST SIGN IN / OUT with a marshal at the Flotterstone and Bavelaw water stations. This is vital not just to judge the winners but also to let us know if anyone is in trouble. Failure to do so is instant disqualification from the competition and may cause others to search for you needlessly.
Taking Part
Once the race starts you must notify the head marshal of any changes to your planned route or registration details (please avoid this only an unexpected serious event should change this)
All participants need to be finished cycling by 13:00 and the whole course by 16:00 – water stations will close, marshals will return and we will call you if you are still on the course at this time. If we can’t get in contact we will have to come get you. Don’t put others at risk through your own lack of planning or under estimating these routes
Please be courteous and helpful when Marshalls ask for your help or instruct you to do something. It will be for good reason.
There will be few markers on the course and they could be damaged, removed or blown away so please pay attention to your route and bring a map. There will be a limited supply of official park maps available at Flotterstone (we will try to stockpile them in advance but there are no guarantees)
If you are in trouble (injured, lost etc..) call for help using the numbers on the emergency contact information form [issued on the day] immediately, give us your location and stay where you are. Never separate or leave anyone behind.
There are public toilets at Flotterstone and Harlaw
Be careful of traffic on the sections of the route that have public transport. No roads are being closed for this event.
We will have 2 water stations at Flotterstone and Bavelaw located in the picnic areas adjacent to their car parks.
The Scottish Outdoor Access Code provides a source of official information – see outdooraccess-scotland.com for ease of reference; paragraphs 3.60, 3.61 and 4.22 are particularly helpful.
The Code is based on three broad principles:
- Respect the interests of other people
- Care for the environment;(in particular to take care to stick to the park paths and carry all your litter)
- Take responsibility for your own actions
After The Event
From 14:00 to 16:00 there will be a food buffet for those finishing at the Flotterstone Inn Garden Room. Please leave some food for those finishing after you. Donations for this or the water stations are very welcome but please let us know in advance.
Alcohol will have to be purchased from the bar (moderately priced and ok selection). Further meal options are also available there.
Ideally we’d like to award prizes at 16:00 and have to vacate the room at 18:00 sharp
There are no showers, no hair dryers, no straightners and no mirrors – bring warm clothing to change into afterwards but everyone will be a sweaty tartan mess.
Just announced
There will be an special after party at the Washbar in central Edinburgh (www.washbar.co.uk), so for those still standing the function room is booked from 8 till late (and we mean LATE!! festival opening hours.. yippee).
All welcome for a pint and a boogy to celebrate what should be a fantastic day.
