Run Mama Run FAQ Section

Run Mama Run

How Do I Register?

Go to the registration page and complete ALL fields, and confirm you have read the terms and conditions first.

How Do I Volunteer?

Go to the volunteer page and complete ALL fields to send us your contact details and intended type of help (marshal, first aider or contributor)

Why Should I Do This?

RMR is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself in stunning surroundings with a tight knit gang of nutters / competitors for a very deserving cause.  We expect a rush of entrants to be part of the first 50 and we want everyone finished still with time for a drink and the award ceremony.

What Happens If The Event Is Full Up?

We’ll post a message when registration is closed (8th Och-tober) or full. If you email or attempt to register we will keep your details on a waiting list in case others drop out. As it’s such a small event we may suggest teams you can join to take part.

What If I Decide To Change Route, Contact Details Or Team?

See Terms and Conditions 15

  • i. Any withdrawal from Run Mama Run should be advised via email to info@runmamarun.co.uk and acknowledged by the organiser.
  • ii. Please contact organisers at info@runmamarun.co.uk if you need to change your intended route or team changes up until noon 15th Och-tober. Please note such changes cannot always be accommodated, particularly if close to the event

Can Children Take Part?

See Terms and Conditions, 2(iv)You are required to be 18-75 years age (entrants under 16 are not considered official entrants, do not pay entry fees and enter entirely at their guardian’s own liability)

Can We Do A Relay Version?

No, sadly we cannot facilitate different team members entering different stages at this event. This may be considered for later events.

How Will I Know Have Registered?

You will receive an email from the organisers

If I Am Hurt Will I Be Covered By The Event’s Liability Insurance?

We hope to minimise the risk of injury by thorough health and safety planning. We rely on all participants to observe the terms and conditions of entry, rules on the day and the instructions of marshals to ensure everyone safely enjoys the day. You are advised to contact an insurance broker if you wish to gain further cover.

If My Belongings, Bike Or Vehicle Is Damaged?

The organisers are not liable, but we’ve tried to reduce this risk by making a support team member compulsory for silver, gold and platinum stages of the event. Please note bicycles and belongings have been stolen from Flotterstone in the past.

What Happens If The Weather Gets Bad?

We will check before the event starts and text the day before to your team leader a go / no go message. If on the day the decision is taken to abandon the event teams will be informed by mobile or at a water station. Teams must then proceed as instructed to Flotterstone or Bavelaw, following marshals instructions at all times. Come prepared for all weather conditions (this is Scotland!) and be aware that all routes involve scaling hills where the weather will be colder, wetter and windier than at ground level.

What Does My Registration Fee Go Towards?

The registration fee is to cover the organisation and running costs of the event only. It pays for the food buffet, insurance cover and some minimal supplies for the water stations. The event is entirely run by volunteers so no-one is being paid. We are relying solely upon your sponsorship to raise funds for the Mama U centre.  Hence we recommend at least £100 per team member. If any money is left over from the running costs it will be donated to the Martyn Bennett Trust for the Mama Ù Cultural Centre.

What Happens If My Bike Breaks?

The terms and conditions (8) specifies a compulsory team kit list that includes a bike repair kit. We recommend you familiarse yourself with basic bike repair in advance of the event. If you are well and truly stuck, stick together as a team and call the emergency contact number you have been given at check in.

What If I Get Injured?

Stick together (this is the reason for the 50 metre rule) apply whatever first aid you are confident to administer at the time and contact the emergency contact numbers you have been given. NEVER separate to get help. Stick to the route, follow the marshal’s instructions and we will come get you.

What If I Don’t Have A Mobile Phone Or Can’t Get A Signal?

We rely on all participants having a mobile phone. Borrow one from a friend to enter if you have to. There are several parts of the Pentlands where a mobile signal can be difficult. If in difficulty it’s likely another team will pass and we will start sweeping the course at 16:00 so help will arrive. Do not wander off the mapped route to get a mobile signal.

What If I Get Lost?

We will be placing markers along the route and handing out maps per team, but you should familiarise yourself with the route and map reading before entering the race to minimise the risk of getting lost. We are using standard park routes, there is no orienteering element to this route, however some pathways are just trampled grass or shingly path. Look out for our tartan markers and if you get lost return back to the last marker. If you can’t find your way back to that marker (the park is large 16km by 12 km approx) call the emergency contact numbers.

What If I Don’t Pay The Fee Or Set Up The Team Just Giving Page?

We reserve the right to refuse your entry to the event

Where Is The Food Buffet Afterwards?

The garden room at the Flotterstone inn, Milton Bridge (A702 Biggar Road), Near Penicuik, EH26 0PP. We’re hoping to have food available from 14:00-18:00.
NB. You are advised to bring your own lunch
